The City of North Bricksfield Fire Department was established in 1934 after a period of heavy growth made the volunteer
department inadequate. The City of North Bricksfield has a population of just over 750,000 people spread out over 28 square
miles. The North Bricksfield Fire Department operates out of 30 stations as well as a training center. The City of North
Bricksfield Fire Department is organized into 2 Divisions with 2 Battalions in each Division. In addition to the 4 Battalions,
there is also a Special Operations Battalion. The Special Operations Battalion responds for MCI, certain rescues, and Haz-Mat
situations as well as when they are called to assist. In 2003, The North Bricksfield Fire Department responded to 112,412
calls, of which 836 we All-Hands or higher. The busiest Engine Company was Engine 6 with 6,452 runs and the busiest Ladder
Company was Ladder 4 with 5,614 runs. The fire department provides fire suppression services and first responder EMS
services for the entire city. The department also operates 4 Paramedic engines with mobile ALS systems. However, the City
of North Bricksfield Emergency Medical Service is not affiliated with the Fire Department although they often work
side-by-side. The City of North Bricksfield Fire Department operates nearly 200 pieces of apparatus including 20
vehicles assigned to on-duty/on-call personnel and 5 Fire/Rescue Boats. There are 5 Citywide Tour Commander vehicles
(assigned to each of the 5 Deputy Chiefs), 1 Command Vehicle assigned to the Assistant Chief, 1 Incident Commander
vehicle assigned to the Department Chief, 1 vehicle assigned to the Department Commissioner, and 1 vehicle assigned
to the City Coordinator from the city Office of Emergency Management (OEM). There are also 10 vehicles assigned to Fire Marshals
and Fire Inspectors. The 5 Fireboats are manned 24/7 by personnel assigned to the Marine Division. The North Bricksfield
Fire Department still continues to selflessly serve the residents of North Bricksfield after 70 years of faithful service.
